Sponsored by the Japan Handicraft Instructors’ Association (JHIA), an organization promoting handcrafted arts and training in Japan for more than 45 years, the Quilt Nihon competition and exhibition began in 1989 and became an international competition in 2005. The biennial contest is the largest in Japan and has become one of most prestigious in the world. Only original works that have not been previously exhibited or published are accepted for judging.

The 12th Quilt Nihon contest received more than 340 entries from 11 countries in traditional and contemporary entry classes. The Quilt House exhibition features the winners from Japan.
