The Symphony Orchestra’s performance will feature one of the greatest and most popular orchestral showpieces of all time and will also showcase some of the finest student talent of the Glenn Korff School of Music. The second half of the Tuesday night concert will consist of Modest Mussorgsky’s spectacular Pictures at an Exhibition, as orchestrated by the French master Maurice Ravel. The first half of the performance will feature solo performances with the orchestra by the four winners of the 2017-18 Glenn Korff School of Music Graduate and Undergraduate Solo Competitions. Undergraduate winners will kick off the program, with Anthony McIntosh performing Emmanuel Séjourné’s Concerto for Marimba and String Orchestra, followed by Hannah Willard performing the first movement of Antonin Dvorak’s Violin Concerto in A minor. Graduate students will then follow up, with Jordan Redd performing the second movement of Reinhold Glière’s Horn Concerto and Liping Xia performing the finale of Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1. UNL Director of Orchestras Tyler Goodrich White conducts, along with Graduate Associate Conductors David Galant and Kao Zhou.

Directed by Dr. Tyler White, the Symphony Orchestra includes students from throughout the university. The ensemble’s objectives are to prepare and present a wide variety of repertoire including chamber, symphonic, and operatic masterworks, and to maintain professional standards of musicianship and etiquette within a collegial and supportive educational atmosphere. The Symphony Orchestra is one of the Glenn Korff School of Music’s most active performing organizations, presenting concerts both on and off campus throughout the academic year.

Tickets: General Admission $5; Students/Seniors $3.
