The silent Western “The Great Train Robbery” will be screened and accompanied by a piano performance by Donna Gunn.
The screening will be the debut of contemporary composer John Muccino’s score recently written for the 1903 short film. A Q&A with curator Melynda Seaton and Gunn will follow the screening.
Produced in 1903 by Edwin S. Porter, “The Great Train Robbery” is considered a milestone in film history and is considered by many to be the first American action film and the first Western film. Run time: 12 minutes.
The regularly scheduled free docent guided Saturday tour will take place following this special event.
The Great Plains Art Museum is open to the public 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and admission is always free.
