“iEXPLORE. iLEARN. iGROW.”will be the theme of special family-friendly exhibits at the UNL?Kimmel Education and Research Center during AppleJack on September 22-23. The Nebraska extension educators and staff will host a variety of free and educational activities during the two-day celebration.
Exhibits will include:
iGROW: Visit an educational, hands-on display about Nebraska’s mainstay of agriculture – corn! It is like a mini-field trip focused on Nebraska school standards of math, social studies, and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). Learn about corn, where our food comes from, careers, and how agriculture is important in our everyday lives.
iEXPLORE: The Commodity Carnival is a fun learning activity for youth to experience managing the business risks associated with producing and bringing livestock to market.
iLEARN: Ag Grows My Stuff is a matching game with miniature shopping carts to think about the origin of many products used daily in our homes and work.
iBUILD. iPLAY. iLEARN: Infants and older can explore the endless possibilities of block play! Playing with blocks can provide experiences where children learn math and science, new words and pre-reading skills, social skills and physical skills.
iWONDER. A book, “I Wonder” was written by Dr. Deb Weitzenkamp & Dr. Connie Reimers-Hild, to encourage youth to think about the world in which they live. Joining us will be the Illustrator, Bruce Arant, also author and illustrator of one of the 150 notable Nebraska books (Simpson’s Sheep Won’t Go to Sleep!) highlighted during the Nebraska 150 Celebration.
iCE CREAM. For a tasty treat, the UNL Food Science & Technology Club will be selling UNL Dairy Store ice cream in their mobile trailer.
Join the Kimmel team during this 2018 AppleJack event, “iGROW Nebraska”?to enjoy free family fun and educational activities. The Nebraska Extension exhibits will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23.
