The University Singers and All-Collegiate Choir concert at 7:30 p.m. on October 11 will be in the beautiful Newman Center on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus at 16th and Q St. Special guests will be the high school choir from Wahoo, Nebraska, under the direction of recent Glenn Korff School of Music graduate, Hunter Boe.

The concert is titled “JOY” based upon the overall messages in the choral texts. Music will include the seminal Exultate Deo by the German late Renaissance (but Venetian-trained) composer Hans Leo Hassler. The piece will be followed by a relatively new setting of Psalm 108 by Nebraska composer/faculty/alum Dr. David von Kampen. Dr. von Kampen’s music will also be performed by the Wahoo High School Choir. They will also perform Make Me an Instrument of Thy Peace and Ev’ry Time I Feel the Spirit (Moses Hogan’s version). The All-Collegiate portion of the program will be “A Celebration of Black Composers” with music by Adolphus Hailstork, Carlos Simon, José Mauricio Nunes Garcia, R. Nathaniel Dett, and Undine Smith Moore. The choirs will combine and perform Let All the World in Every Corner Sing with brass accompaniment and also utilizing the expanded pipe organ in the west gallery. The concert will conclude with JOY (conducted by doctoral student, Anne Gassmann) and haunting Alleluia by Swedish composer Fredrik Sixten and a popular Moses Hogan Spiritual I Can Tell the World reiterating the concert theme over and over. The concert is free and open to the public.

University Singers, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s premiere and historic flagship choral ensemble, presents the finest and most versatile choral singers in the entire University. While many of the choir’s singers are music majors, students from throughout the University are encouraged to audition and participate.

All-Collegiate Choir is comprised of University of Nebraska-Lincoln students as well as singers from the Lincoln area. It rehearses 150 minutes a week (one day a week on Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 9:30) on Nebraska’s City Campus in Westbrook Music Building Room 130. No audition is required, and non-majors are welcome and encouraged to join. This group performs large-scale works with orchestral, organ, and piano accompaniment, including many popular choral favorites. It also is frequently asked to sing in combination with other choirs on campus and in the community.

Free and open to the public.
