A collaboration between Karen Becker (cello) and Hye-Won Hwang (dance) faculty members in the Glenn Korff School of Music. Becker and Hwang will be joined by Taiji Practitioner Roz Hussin, Visual Artist Geraldine Dobos, and University of Nebraska-Lincoln Cello and Dance Students.

Rhythm of Peace—Movement for Change will take place at 7:30 p.m. on October 23 in the Sheldon Museum of Art—Grand Hall. The performance is free and open to the public.

The event is a reflection of Becker and Hwang’s desire to promote peace and respect in the Lincoln community among people of diverse backgrounds.

Works to be performed include the Suite for Solo Cello by Spanish cellist and composer Gaspar Cassadó; Desert of My Own Self, a modern dance choreographed by Hwang; LiFETiME: (Liminality In Flux—Experience Transitioning In Motion Eternally), an interdisciplinary collaboration between Becker, Hwang, Hussin, and Dobos; and Anne Wilson’s moving composition for Solo Cello and Cello Quartet—Lament: In Memory of Matthew Shepherd. The Lament will be performed by Becker and four of her Nebraska cello students. They will be joined by two Nebraska dance students who have created a choreography to the music. The evening will end with dance improvisation joined by the Nebraska Cello Choir performing Libertango by Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla. Audience members will be welcomed to dance with the Nebraska dance students and faculty.

Free and open to the public.
