On this day in Japan, the lifestyle and art of Japanese culture is celebrated throughout the country with special exhibits and events of all types. The Kawasaki Reading Room is proud to host it’s own “Bunkano-Hi” event. Featuring live music that will highlight traditional Japanese songs to modern animation themes from guest pianist Wataru Niimori and a curated art exhibition from Lincoln Local Sheena Nakagawa focusing on urban environments and fashion, this is one event you will not want to miss! Bring your friends and enjoy this afternoon selection of Japanese Art by local Artists!

Sheena Nakagawa is a Lincoln-based freelance illustrator and college student who primarily draws character and stylized portraits. She uses the human form as a means to explore and portray abstract concepts as well as symbolism to communicate and establish a connection through her artwork. Her drawing style is heavily influenced by Japanese animation and comic books.

Wataru Niimori actively works as a composer, arranger, pianist and educator in the U.S. and Japan. He is currently a doctoral candidate at University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he studies composition for film and media with Professor Thomas Larson. Born in Kyoto, Japan, Waturu first studied classical piano at age 3, and has since explored a variety of international music styles like rock, jazz, folk and more.
