Both of UNL’s larger mixed choirs will combine in concert this Tuesday, February 26th, at 7:30pm for a FREE concert at the beautiful Westminster Presbyterian Church at the corners of 27th and South Streets. The concert is titled “The Promise of Living” and any donations will go to enhancing the UNL choral endowment fund. This promises to be an annual event. All-Collegiate Choir will perform Ralph Vaughan Williams’s immortal “Five Mystical Songs” with DMA voice students Trey Meyer as baritone soloist. The choirs will combine with a composition premiered earlier this month in the Lied Center, written for N150, by UNL faculty member, Dr. David von Kampen. University Singers will follow with a choral set focusing on “Living” and “Promise” with works by John Rutter, Maurice Duruflé, Elaine Hagenberg, Patrick Hawes, and Kyle Pederson with texts inspired by “comfort, stillness, remembrance, purity, and love.” The Glenn Korff School of Music Director, Dr. Sergio Ruiz, will make a guest appearance on piano concertizing with the University Singers.

The concert will close with the choirs combining to perform Aaron Copland’s “The Promise of Living.”

University Singers, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s premiere and historic flagship choral ensemble, presents the finest and most versatile choral singers in the entire University. While many of the choir’s singers are music majors, students from throughout the University are encouraged to audition and participate.

All-Collegiate Choir, directed by Marques L. A. Garrett, is comprised of University of Nebraska–Lincoln students as well as singers from the Lincoln area. This group performs large-scale works with orchestral, organ, and piano accompaniment, including many popular choral favorites. It also is frequently asked to sing in combination with other choirs on campus and in the community.
