On Wednesday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music’s Kimball Recital Hall, the Moran Woodwind Quintet presents a recital titled “Modern American Masterworks”, with works by American composers Alec Wilder, Amanda Harberg, and John Steinmetz. Steinmetz’s work, titled What’s Going On, written in 2018, explores layering of simple musical lines, based on the melodic interval of a third. The Moran Woodwind Quintet premiered his All the Difference in November of 2018. Harberg’s Quintet was written in 2017 for the Dorian Woodwind Quintet, and exploits quintet color and blend, and is cast in four large movements that share thematic material recast in different characters. Wilder’s Quintet No. 4, composed in 1957, rounds out the program.

One of the most active and visible quintets in the Midwest, the Moran Woodwind Quintet is the resident faculty woodwind quintet of the Glenn Korff School of Music. Formed in 1986 and named for the late John Moran, Director of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln School of Music, the Quintet has toured extensively.

The Moran Woodwind Quintet includes:
Jeffrey McCray, bassoon
Diane Barger, clarinet
John Bailey, flute
Alan Mattingly, horn
William McMullen, oboe

Free and open to the public.
