Science writer, Kristina Campbell will present, “Successful Science Communication in a Digital World” at the Food for Health Seminar Series.

Online, there exists a constant stream of both scientific and not-so-scientific messages. Where and how can scientists talk about their data in this fast-moving current of information? And how can they maximize the chances that the media will get the story correct?

This presentation will give an overview of digital science communication: who communicates, on what channels, and for which purposes. After identifying how things can go wrong, we’ll turn to some principles for effective science communication, with a few tips specific to microbiome science. The presentation will focus on better equipping scientists to contribute to an increased public understanding — not only of their own work, but of science in general.

Kristina Campbell (M.Sc.) covers microbiome science for both digital and print media. She is author of The Well-Fed Microbiome Cookbook (Rockridge Press, 2016) and co-author of an academic textbook, Gut Microbiota: Interactive Effects on Nutrition and Health (Elsevier, 2018). She writes, consults, and works with scientific advisory boards for microbiome-related organizations throughout Europe and North America.
