Thursday, September 12, 6:15-7:00
Glenn Korff School of Music
Westbrook Music Building Room 105

Research scientist and harpist Joan Fitzpatrick will lead us in this fascinating look into harp acoustics.

WHAT DETERMINES THE CHARACTERISTIC SOUND OF A HARP?
o What happens when you pluck a harp string?
o What influences the way the string sounds?
o What part of the sound does the string contribute?
o What happens at the soundboard after the string is plucked?
o What is the role of the soundbox / body? What about the holes?
o Where does the harp radiate sound from? Nearfield and farfield.

HOW CAN I USE THIS INFORMATION TO GET THE SOUND I WANT FROM MY INSTRUMENT?

This event is open to the public. No registration is required.
