Celebrate two new books in the “Discover the Great Plains” series.

“Great Plains Weather” by Ken Dewey, professor of applied climate science at UNL. The weather of the Great Plains is extreme and highly variable, from floods to droughts, blizzards to tornadoes. As one of the storm chasers who travels the Great Plains tracking severe weather, Dewey also shares some of his experiences on the road.

“Great Plains Birds” by Larkin Powell, professor of conservation biology at UNL. He explores the history, geography, and geology of the plains and the birds that inhabit it. He uses historical maps and images to show how wetlands, grasslands, rivers and forests have changed, all while illustrating why grassland birds are the most threatened group of birds in North America.

Books will be available for purchasing and signing.
These events are free and open to the public.

Parking is usually available in the Que Place garage at 11th and Q streets. Please note there is construction in the area, and the Larson Garage at 13th and Q is another good parking option.
