Dr. Karen Becker, cello, and Dr. Mark Clinton, piano, professors in the Glenn Korff School of Music, will present “Make Music, Not War” on Thursday, November 14th at 7:30PM in Westbrook Recital Hall on the UNL campus. The program will include the Beethoven Variations on “See, the conquering hero” from Handel’s Judas Maccabeus, Sonata No. 2 for cello and piano by Czech composer Bohuslav Martinu, and British composer Frank Bridge’s Sonata for Cello and Piano. Each piece on the program has a common theme: Judas Maccabeus was a Jewish priest and warrior who defended and helped preserve the Jewish faith in ancient Israel; Martinu voluntarily fled the Nazis and moved to France in 1923 and was blacklisted by the Gustapo in 1940; and the Frank Bridge Sonata, written between 1913-17 during the Great War, reflects his utter despair over the senselessness of World War I. Becker and Clinton look forward to sharing this powerful and compelling music with the University and greater Lincoln community.

Free and open to the public.
