Join Mark Griep, professor in the UNL chemistry department, for the opening of a time capsule put together by Professor Mary Fossler in 1916. This time capsule was put together to honor Nebraska’s chemistry department and Dr. Rachel Lloyd, the first American woman to receive a PhD in chemistry, from 1887 to 1894.
Dr. Griep’s lab studies bacterial DNA replication proteins in a search for new antibiotics. He was awarded the Helen M. Free Award for Public Outreach in 2017 from the American Chemical Society for his work on chemistry in movies and for raising awareness about Dr. Rachel Lloyd.
