This year’s juror was Professor Emeritus Gail Kendall. Kendall was raised in a small lumber town on Sturgeon Bay in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Following her formal education at the University of Michigan (B.S.D.), and Eastern Michigan University (M.F.A.), she spent 10 years working as an independent studio artist in St. Paul, Minnesota. Then she became a professor at the University of Nebraska¬–Lincoln in 1987. In 2011, she retired from full-time teaching.
Kendall’s own works are influenced by European earthenware pottery and porcelain traditions from the 13th through the 18th centuries. Both “peasant” and “palace” pots come together in in her vessels, which reference English slipware, Delftware, and Italian maiolica. The Eisentrager-Howard Gallery is located on the first floor of Richards Hall on the University’s city campus at Stadium Drive and T streets. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 12:30-4:30 p.m. Admission to the gallery is free and open to the public.
