In our increasingly interconnected world, we must find ways to continue to prepare students to engage as globally competent professionals. While travel abroad is ideal, it is not always possible and we work to create opportunities for global learning here in Nebraska. Dipra Jha, associate professor of practice in the Hospitality, Restaurant and Tourism Management Program, has been leading an effort to help connect students with their peers around the world through the Global Virtual Classrooms initiative. His first experience with teaching a virtual exchange class was his popular “Three Countries; One Classroom” virtual exchange project in Fall 2018 with his “Introduction to the Lodging Industry” course. Across 7,500 miles and a 9-hour time difference, Jha connected his students with those of his peers at The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and Oman Tourism College in Muscat, Oman. Jha’s 2019 course has since expanded to “Six Countries”, with new partners in the Ukraine, India and Denmark.

Jha will share about his experiences and shed more light on the process for other faculty interested in becoming involved in this type of course offering.

Reception at 11:30 a.m., with seminar to begin at 12:00 p.m. Lunch provided, RSVP required.
