An overview of some nonlocal mathematical formulations and computational models that have been shown to be very useful in predicting and allowing us to better understand some complex phenomena like fracture, damage, and corrosion. The particular nonlocal models discussed here are of “peridynamic” type: they avoid using spatial derivatives to describe the phenomenon, instead employing integrals and making it easy to simulate autonomous evolution of discontinuities, such as cracks in a domain, or problems with moving boundaries. Hosted by Adam Larios, Petronela Radu and Mikil Foss.
