UNL Libraries welcomes Dr. Shane Redman, Senior Data Project Manager for ICPSR, to present on “Writing Data Management Plans that Satisfy Data Sharing Requirements.” Dr. Redman has worked primarily on the data acquisitions team as well as on a number of sponsored data archiving projects. In this role, he frequently works with researchers across a variety of disciplines on preparing data management plans to ensure data can be shared after the project is complete.

Data Management Plans (DMPs) are commonly required by funding agencies as part of grant submissions. Increasingly more funding agencies are also requiring data generated by a project to be shared with the broader scientific community. As one of the oldest and largest social science data archives in the world, the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) frequently assists researchers in developing data management plans that satisfy data sharing requirements. This presentation will cover the fundamentals of writing effective DMPs, including topics that should be addressed in a DMP, suggested language to include (and avoid), and additional resources to consult when writing DMPs.
