For some instructors, maintaining academic integrity in the classroom can be a persistent worry that leads to implementing third-party tech solutions. Teaching during the pandemic has revealed that these solutions trade one set of instructional challenges for another, but there are ways to mitigate the challenges presented by academic dishonesty while encouraging deeper learning and student engagement. This session aims to explore the reasons students cheat, and to provide strategies for building a classroom culture of learning through course design and harnessing students’ intrinsic motivation. This session will benefit instructors who want to address topics of academic integrity by developing a classroom culture of trust.
