The Lied Center for Performing Arts, Lied Center Piano Circle and Glenn Korff School of Music will host the fourth annual Lied Center Piano Academy July 11-15.

The academy is designed for students entering grades 9 through their first year of college. The artistic director is Paul Barnes, the Marguerite Scribante Professor of Piano in the Glenn Korff School of Music.

“I’m especially excited about the 2022 Lied Center Piano Academy as I’m serving in my second year as artistic director,” Barnes said. “We will be welcoming 16 academy fellows to our beautiful campus.”

The featured academy artist is Jeannette Fang, who will teach private lessons, masterclasses and will also present a workshop titled “How to be your own producer: Creating your role as a pianist using today’s media and methods.” She will also present a recital on Tuesday, July 12 at 7 p.m. in Westbrook Recital Hall Rm. 119. The recital is free and open to the public.

She is a member of the acclaimed Garth Newel Piano Quartet. She received her D.M.A. from the University of Michigan and holds degrees from Juilliard and Yale. She currently hosts a podcast titled “So Many Wrong Notes.”

Her most recent awards include the Gold Medal at the 2013 Seattle International Piano Competition, where she also received the President’s Award and Audience Favorite Prize. She has also earned top prizes in the Dallas Chamber Symphony International Piano Competition and the MTNA Young Artist National Competition.
