NUtech Ventures will host a webinar featuring Matt Poulsen from Suiter Swantz IP titled “An Introduction to Intellectual Property,” at noon Nov. 3. The webinar is open to all University of Nebraska–Lincoln researchers, including faculty, graduate students and postdoctoral researchers.
The webinar will provide an introduction to intellectual property, with an emphasis on the patent life cycle. It will walk through the key stages within the patent life cycle, including patentability searching, patent application filing, examination, issuance and licensing. The webinar will focus on threshold requirements for obtaining a patent and potentially fatal missteps to avoid when beginning to disclose one’s innovation to outside parties.
Poulsen is a patent attorney and co-owner of Suiter Swantz IP. He obtained his bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral and Juris Doctor degrees from Nebraska.
Poulsen’s clients include Fortune 500 companies, universities, startup companies and individual inventors. His practice is generally focused on IP procurement and protection, including U.S. and foreign patent preparation and prosecution, patentability and freedom-to-operate analysis and various trademark, copyright and trade secret matters. Poulsen also advises clients on various startup-related activities, such as early-stage intellectual property strategy.
