UNL Math Club presents: What are REU’s and why should you apply? REU stands for Research Experience for Undergraduates and is held in many fields. It started in mathematics around 1982-83 when NSF started funding a limited number of universities for summer research programs. The program stopped for a couple of years due to budget cuts and restarted in 1987 and has been running since. The idea remains the same: exposing undergraduate students to research in mathematics. Whether you are considering graduate school or industry, an REU is an invaluable experience. In this talk, I (Shah Roshan-Zamir) will provide information about REU’s, the application process, and what to consider (or not consider!) when applying.
