Please join us for our first State of the Agency Lecture of the spring. We will be joined by Brian Schilhabel, Federal Security Director, TSA Nebraska.

Brian Schilhabel was selected as the Federal Security Director for Nebraska effective August 2021. Prior to that, Mr. Schilhabel had served as the Assistant Federal Security Director - Inspections (AFSD-I) since April 2018. As the AFSD-I, he was responsible for providing leadership, oversight and ensuring regulatory compliance across all transportation modes in both Nebraska and Iowa.

Mr. Schilhabel began his career with TSA in January 2013 as a Transportation Security Specialist – Explosives (TSS-E) at Ronald Regan Washington National Airport (DCA). In August of 2013, he was selected as the Engineering Officer for the Explosives Operations Branch (EOB) at TSA Headquarters. In 2014, he was selected as the Chief of Operations for the EOB, where he was responsible for the allocation, staffing, training and day-to-day operations of over 380 TSS-Es across the country. In 2016, he accepted a position as the Executive Advisor to the Assistant and Deputy Assistant Administrator for the Office of Security Operations (OSO).

Before joining TSA, Mr. Schilhabel completed 22 years of service in the United States Air Force, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) program. During his military career, Brian held positions as an EOD Team Member, Team Leader, Instructor and Flight Chief. Retiring in 2011, his career culminated as the EOD Functional Manager for the largest war fighting command in the USAF with operational supervision and program oversight of over 300 EOD technicians engaged in Counter-IED warfare worldwide.

Mr. Schilhabel recently completed the School of Senior Leadership Studies at TSAs Leadership Institute, earned his Master’s in Public Administration in 2019 and his B.S., in Homeland Security in 2016.

Mr. Schilhabel, a native of Austin, TX, has been happily married to the former Sarah Wick of SLC, UT since 2009. They live together in Omaha but spend the weekends exploring the Midwest.
