BSE faculty, staff, and graduate students were invited to read ‘Successful STEM Mentoring Initiatives for Underrepresented Students’ by Becky Wai-Ling Packard during the spring 2022 semester. The book provides a step-by-step, research-based guide to design programs that support recruiting and retaining women and students from underrepresented groups in STEM fields. Three book clubs met over several weeks to discuss the book and apply the provided assessment tools to our department. During this colloquium, we will provide an overview of the book contents and key takeaways from the book club discussions, including actional steps to improve the BSE experience for all students.
