Attention, Cello Lovers …

The UNL Glenn Korff School of Music presents a cello concert featuring guest artist, Sonja Kraus. Dr. Sonja Kraus, a native of Germany, is an internationally acclaimed cellist, teacher, and music scholar, whose concertizing and teaching career has taken her through Europe, Asia, Latin America, and the United States. Currently, Kraus holds the position of Assistant Professor of Cello/Bass at the University of South Dakota and is the cellist in the renowned Rawlins Piano Trio. She is a sought-out performer, clinician, and instructor of masterclasses throughout the US, Latin America, and Germany with most recent invitations to Indiana University – Jacobs School of Music (IN), University of Oklahoma (OK), University of Kansas (KS), Chapman University (CA), Colegio Universitario San Gerónimo de La Habana (Cuba), Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico. Kraus participated in several music festivals around the world including Habana Clásica, the International Chamber Orchestra of Puerto Rico, and the Fresno Summer Orchestra Academy.

Dr. Kraus will be joined by Glenn Korff School or Music cello professor, Dr. Karen Becker, and her cello students. Dr. Kraus will be featured as our guest soloist, playing the beautiful Solo Suite No. 3 by Ernest Bloch. A large portion of the program will feature Kraus and Becker enthusiastically sharing their love of cello duets by playing works by David Popper, Friedrich August Kummer, and Jean Barrière. Finally, the program wouldn’t be complete without one of the most famous cello ensemble pieces—Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasileiras No. 1 for eight cellos!

Admission is free and all are welcome!
