The advent of digital media and the loss of traditional advertising revenue have hit the journalism profession hard. Newsrooms across the country have faced cutbacks, layoffs and closures. News deserts have grown, and reliable news and information can be hard to find. To survive and thrive, the journalism industry must innovate and change.

The Seline Lecture Series engages journalism innovators and thought leaders to discuss, explore and debate how the industry can adapt to meet the challenges of our time.

The Seline Lecture Series is free and open to the public.

Founded in 2010, the Seline Lecture Series is supported by a fund established by the Seline Family in memory of their parents S. Allen and Kathleen D. Seline for the years they devoted to helping the young people of Nebraska.

Jenna Johnson is the deputy democracy editor at The Washington Post, where she leads a team that focuses on the electoral process and voting rights. She has worked on several desks and collaborated with almost every section in the newsroom during her nearly 15 years at The Post. Jenna’s political reporting career began with her coverage of Scott Walker’s presidential campaign and Donald Trump’s campaign, where she was The Post’s lead reporter. She covered the Trump White House for over a year and continued to travel around the country to document what Americans thought of the president and his agenda. In her current role, she manages reporters across the country and leads collaborations with journalists across the newsroom engaged in democracy coverage. Johnson is a 2007 graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications.
