Brad MacDonald is an interaction designer, artist, musician and storyteller using technology and expertise in user experience to craft narratives for museums, cultural institutions and corporate partners. He is particularly interested in the creative process, universal principles of design, and the emotions that drive experiences regardless of platform.
He served as the Director of Creative Media at the Smithsonian Arts + Industries Building where he worked on the FUTURES exhibit and consulted with the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History on the use of media and technology for the award winning exhibition, Cellphone: Unseen Connections. As the Project Director for Digital Experiences at the Exploratorium in San Francisco, he coordinated research and developed guidelines for the creation of digital immersive experiences and oversaw the creation of a digital strategy guide. He was invited to participate in the Master Planning charrette for the Museum of Us in San Diego, and has taught workshops on iterative design at Balboa Park, ECSITE, and throughout Europe and China.
He has taught at Parsons School of Design in the Design and Technology program, and in NYU’s Tandon School of Engineering, Quinnipiac University and the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, China. During his 14 years with Large Animal Games, he served as the Lead Artist or Art Director for over 100 mobile, online, social and PC downloadable games.
Since 1989, he has been a transdisciplinary creative; working as a professional political cartoonist, comic book illustrator, animator, product designer, web developer, game designer, video blogger, author, and more. Past clients have included Realtor.com, Mattel, MTV Networks, Universal Studios, LEGO, the Sci-Fi Channel, Tommy Hilfiger, NFL, Nascar, The Gap, Sony Records, RCA Records, Epitaph Records, CNBC, The Ethiopian Commentator, Pastor Troy, Busta Rhymes, MaMaMedia, the LA Galaxy, the nu-metal band Disturbed, and Nickelodeon.
