SUMMARY:Jane Kathol and Neal Hoesing art exhibition
STATUS:CONFIRMED
DESCRIPTION:Loft Gallery is open 7 a.m. to midnight Monday–Friday\, as we
 ll as 9 a.m. to midnight Saturday & Sunday.\n\nABOUT JANE L. KATHOL\nEncom
passing the beauty of Nebraska\, Kathol’s landscapes are filled with tig
htly rolling hills\, abundant groves of trees and wide-open skies\, the tw
ists and turns of creeks all speak of the incredible scenery of our divers
e state. The works are original compositions and one of a kind.\n\nKatho
l’s favorite time to observe nature is early morning and evenings\, when
the light is softer and bends around the objects. The changes of Nebraska
weather and seasons also make for constant sources of inspirations.\n\nJa
 ne Kathol Fine Art has collectors in Ontario\, Canada\; London\, England\;
and 19 states and Washington\, D.C. Since 2013 her work has been in four
solo shows in South Dakota and Nebraska and exhibited at numerous location
 s in Omaha\, Norfolk\, Lincoln\, Elkhorn\, and Ashland.\n\n_______________
____\n\nABOUT NEAL HOESING\nA Nebraska native and a graduate of the Univer
sity of Nebraska–Lincoln\, Hoesing’s work starts with a concept\, but
it may morph into something somewhat different from what was originally co
nceived. He is often guided by some ineffable \ndecision-making process. T
he viewer of his abstract work should observe long enough to have a reacti
on\; emotionally and intellectually. The way to view an abstract piece of
art is to try to feel that reaction and perhaps share it with others\, eve
n if they have a different take on it.\n\n[image\: artwork by Neal Hoesing

STATUS:CONFIRMED
DESCRIPTION:Backyard poultry production is growing globally with 85 million
backyard chickens estimated in the U.S. Whether kept as pets or to provid
e a local and sustainable food source\, flocks can harbor pathogens and an
tibiotic-resistant bacteria that can be transmitted to humans via the envi
ronment\, pests\, food products\, and direct contact. Poultry waste can co
ntaminate soil and water sources\, posing risks to nearby humans and other
animals. Flocks can attract pests that may carry diseases and disrupt loc
al ecosystems. This project\, which will launch in the summer of 2025\, ai
ms to improve understanding among backyard poultry farmers of potential he
alth\, environmental\, community\, and food safety risks associated with t
heir systems and motivate the adoption and promotion of behaviors critical
to public health and sustainability of local food systems using a peer-to
-peer outreach approach.\n\nBio sketch\nNafisa Lubna\, is an environmental
biochemist originally from Bangladesh and currently a second-year PhD stu
dent at SNR. She specializes in applied ecology and her research encompass
es molecular diagnosis of emerging bacterial infections\, zoonosis\, root
cause identification\, and environmental risk factor analysis from poultry
and live bird production. She is learning to use health extension in prev
enting antimicrobial resistance and other infectious diseases working toge
