Are you a new first-year student? Are you curious about undergraduate research?

Light a FYRE within! This online (Zoom) Information Session and Application Workshop will introduce you to the First Year Research Experience (FYRE) program at UNL, designed to help students engage in undergraduate research early in their academic journey.

Ioanna Kipourou (Lead FYRE Advisor & Graduate Assistant) and Courtney Santos, Director, Undergraduate Research & Fellowships, will discuss the following topics:

1. What is undergraduate research?;
2. Benefits of FYRE (mentorship connections, experiential learning, and more!);
3. Eligibility for FYRE employment (e.g. federal work-study), or unpaid research activities through course enrollment;
4. How to search for FYRE undergraduate research opportunities; and
5. Select 3 research experiences that match with your unique interests and goals for your first year.

Finally, the workshop will conclude with a step-by-step walkthrough of the FYRE application process, offering tips and strategies for a successful application. Applications are due July 15, 2025! We look forward to meeting you and encouraging your application to FYRE.
