SUMMARY:A Collection of Work by Scott McDonald\, An Art Exhibition
STATUS:CONFIRMED
DESCRIPTION:This collection features watercolor and gouache works created o
ver the past three years by Lincoln native artist Scott McDonald. The seri
es explores themes of human existence\, presenting a striking balance of b
eauty and symmetry within subject matter that can feel unsettling or uncom
 fortable.\n\nThrough detailed depictions of bodies\, hands\, and skulls\,
Scott examines the inevitability of death - an aspect of life he believes
should be embraced rather than feared. His work invites viewers to reconsi
der their perceptions\, finding grace and harmony in themes often associat
ed with discomfort. A self-taught watercolor artist\, Scott applies techni
ques influenced by his earlier experience with acrylics\, building texture
and strong tonal contrasts within each piece. His artistic influences ran
ge from classical painters such as William-Adolphe Bouguereau and Caravagg
io to surrealists Zdzisaw Beksinski and Salvador Dal\, as well as contempo
rary artists including Jeremy Geddes and Michael Reedy.\n\nScott has been
employed at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for 18 years. Over time\, h
is artistic style has evolved from abstract and cartoon-inspired acrylic p
aintings to his current contemporary and dark surrealist watercolor and go
uache series. His work has been displayed locally at Tugboat Gallery\, Bur
kholder Gallery\, and the Resonator Gallery. In 2022\, he received the Bes
t Newcomer award at the Lincoln Arts Festival and was featured as an emerg
ing artist. Most recently\, three of his watercolor pieces were included i
 n Manifest Gallery's 22nd Season AQUACHROME Biennial exhibition.\nTo learn
more about Scott and his artwork\, please visit scottmcdonaldartist.com.

SUMMARY:MFA Thesis Exhibition III
STATUS:CONFIRMED
DESCRIPTION:MFA Thesis Exhibition III\, featuring the work of Emmanual Asam
oah and Joshua Goering\, will take place April 6-10 in the Eisentrager-How
ard Gallery in Richards Hall.\n\nAn artist talk will take place on Friday\
, April 10 at 4 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15. A closing reception will tak
 e place on April 10 from 5-7 p.m. in the gallery.\n\nThe Eisentrager-Howar
d Gallery is located on the first floor of Richards Hall on the university
's city campus at Stadium Drive and T streets. Gallery hours are Monday-Th
ursday\, noon to 5 p.m. Admission to the gallery is free and open to the p
ublic.\n\nMore information on each artist and exhibition is below\:\n\n* E
mmanuel "KStony" Asamoah\, "(Arrival is Not Access)"\n\nAsamoah works with
clay\, metal and found objects because they carry history. These material
s hold traces of labor\, movement and everyday life\, and he uses them to
tell stories about memory\, identity\, and change. He first learned clay i
n Bekwai\, Ghana\, from his grandmother\, who made pots and grinding bowls
for daily use. Watching her work taught him that ordinary objects can hol
d deep meaning. That early experience still shapes his practice. Today\, h
e combines traditional ceramic methods with metal and reclaimed materials
to reflect both where he comes from and where he is now. His work focuses
on breaking\, rebuilding and reusing materials as a way to think about mig
ration\, cultural memory\, Life and resilience. He sees repair not as fixi
ng something back to what it was\, but as a way to create something new. T
hrough sculpture and installation\, he explores how social\, cultural\, an
d economic systems affect our lives\, while giving space to stories that a
re often overlooked.\n\nAsamoah received a Bachelor of Arts in industrial
art (ceramics) from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in
Ghana and is currently pursuing an MFA in studio art at the University of
Nebraska-Lincoln. In 2024\, he received the NCECA Multicultural Fellowship
\, recognizing his growing presence in contemporary ceramics. His work has
been exhibited in the U.S. and Ghana. Working with clay\, metal\, and fou
nd materials\, Kstony explores how stories of breakage\, repair\, and cont
inuity move across cultures\, connecting his Ghanaian roots to a broader c
ontemporary context.\n\n* Joshua Goering "From the Pit"\n\nClay retains hi
stories. It holds a memory of each action experienced on its surface and i
n its form. Goering is a potter focused on making objects that capture the
se moments. He pinches\, scrapes\, trims\, throws and carves\, exposing to
oth and excavating form. Working with local material guides the ethos behi
nd the work\, grounding him in place and connecting him to the environment
. The form language curated is\, in part\, inspired by his process and too
ls. These utilitarian objects interest him\; their qualities vary accordin
g to the tasks they are afforded in a manner similar to functional pots. U
sing their profiles in his dialect as symbol can lead to a deeper understa
nding of the object's material history. Goering mines ceramic history\, se
eking to contextualize these symbolic objects and study what came before.
He selects from across different periods and regions\, chasing what resona
tes with place\, symbol and process. He is interested in disparate objects
having connections to one another\, visible or invisible.\n\nGoering was
born and raised in Kansas City\, Kansas. In 2021\, he graduated from the U
niversity of Kansas with a B.F.A. in ceramics and a B.A. in environmental
studies. Following this\, he did a year-long internship at Starworks Ceram
ics. Goering's work hinges on his environmental disposition\, an inquisiti
ve nature surrounding materials and an inherent love of process. His curre
nt work involves a dialogue with the regional landscape using local clays
and rocks\, as well as hand-building forms that reference objects involved
  in his process.
