Each year, high diversity local ecotype prairie restorations are planted on hundreds of Nebraska acres for projects such as Lincoln’s new Prairie Corridor. At the same time, native grassland mixes with low to moderate diversity are planted on thousands of acres, typically private agricultural land participating in cost-share conservation programs with USDA or other agencies. This seminar contrasts these two approaches and suggests their goals and methods overlap extensively. We will need both approaches to meet the challenges our prairie landscapes face in future decades.
