Presented by Curtis Riganti, climatologist, High Plains Regional Climate Center. The National Drought Mitigation Center’s Drought Risk Atlas has been updated to include climate trends and new hydrology data at National Weather Service (NWS) and U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) observing sites across the Lower 48. Long-term trends on meteorological drought indices such as the standardized precipitation index, and on frequency of precipitation events, were calculated and evaluated for statistical significance at the NWS sites.
