Open Teaching Apiary times are an informal unstructured gathering of members of the Great Plains Master Beekeeping program. There will be brief demonstrations, questions and answers, and time to get hands on experience with beehives. Open Teaching Apiary will count as 2 hours of field training towards your progress through the Great Plains Master Beekeeping program.

ISU is hosting monthly Open Teaching Apiaries in partnership with the Great Plains Master Beekeeper Program. Join us in our honey apiary to sharpen your beekeeping skills and discuss best management practices as we conduct our monthly hive inspections.

Please contact Randall Cass at randall@iastate.edu to register.
Registration is required.

Dress Code:
Please come dressed appropriately for beekeeping. Bring your own beekeeping protective gear (veil, jacket, bee suit) or borrow one of our veil jackets and come dressed in long sleeves, long pants, and close-toed shoes. It is also highly recommended that visitors avoid wearing black or dark-colored clothing (this includes socks) and avoid strong-smelling perfumes and deodorants that could irritate the bees.

Waiver:
The university asks us to have visitors engaging in hands-on beekeeping activities to sign a liability waiver, recognizing that honey bees are a stinging insect and acknowledging the risks related to beekeeping.
