José Antonio Bowen has been leading innovation and change for over 40 years at Stanford, Georgetown, and the University of Southampton (UK), then as a dean at Miami University and SMU and as President of Goucher College (voted a Top 10 Most Innovative College under his leadership). He now runs Bowen Innovation Group L.L.C., and does innovation, pedagogy and D&I consulting and training in both higher education and for Fortune 500 companies including AT&T, Chevron, Pfizer, Toyota, and Walmart.

Bowen has long been a innovator in education, classroom design and technology, featured in The New York Times, Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Newsweek, PBS News Hour, and on NPR (an extended media list is here). He was given a Stanford Centennial Award for Undergraduate Teaching in 1990 and he has presented keynotes and workshops at more than 400 campuses and conferences in 46 states and 20 countries around the world.

The workshop is sponsored by the CoB Teaching and Learning Center and is the third and final workshop of the Fall 2025 Joint Teaching Excellence series, a collaboration among The Center for Transformative Teaching (CTT), the CoB Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) and the CoE Engineering and Computing Education Core (ECEC).

This session will be a two-part, hands-on experience with AI. Part 1 will focus on Working with AI: Literacy, Tools & Techniques. Here attendees will develop skills using various AI tools and practice implementing AI to accomplish useful teaching tasks. Part 2 will be Teaching with AI: From Cheating to Creative Assignments. This will be a time to employ and personalize the use of AI to your own teaching.

Attendees must bring a laptop or device (with a full charge!) as this will be a highly interactive session where you are developing as you learn.
