Dr. Hainze’s seminar is titled “Working at the Interface of Human and Insect Interactions and the Ethics of Entomology.”

John Hainze is Vice President of Science and Research at Thermacell Repellents, Instructor in Environmental Science at Seattle University, and an Affiliate at the Seattle University Center for Environmental Justice and Sustainability. His career has been oriented to solving problems at the insect-human interface - first at SC Johnson and now at Thermacell. Hainze is author of Nature Underfoot: Living with Beetles, Crabgrass, Fruit Flies, and Other Tiny Life Around Us. He has a Ph.D. in Entomology from the University of Wisconsin and an M.Sc. in Religion from Yale University.
