The UNL Symphony Orchestra closes its 2018-19 season with “Gallery of Titans,” a celebration of works by Mozart, Bach, and Mahler. The program opens with Mozart’s brief, festive, and elegant Symphony No. 32 in G major, K. 318. UNL Professor of Oboe William McMullen and Professor of Violin David Neely join the orchestra’s string section for a performance of J. S. Bach’s Concerto for Oboe and Violin, BWV 1060a. The program concludes with Gustav Mahler’s monumental Symphony No. 1 in D major, “Titan,” featuring The Husker Horn Choir. Mahler’s revolutionary work opens with a compelling evocation of the coming of spring, and ends with an epic journey from despair to ultimate triumph.
Members of the Symphony Orchestra include students from throughout the university. The ensemble’s objectives are to prepare and present a wide variety of repertoire including chamber, symphonic, and operatic masterworks, and to maintain professional standards of musicianship and etiquette within a collegial and supportive educational atmosphere.
Adults $5; Students/Seniors $3
This performance will also be live webcast.
