Join the Symphonic Band for their program, Passages, on March 10 at 7:30 pm in Kimball Recital Hall. In November, Nebraska lost one of its greatest music educators, Dr. Brian Anderson. Among his many accomplishments was leading the commission of twenty-five predominately Nebraska schools for the modern classic, October by Eric Whitacre. The piece will be performed in his memory. UNL’s Professor of Bassoon, Dr. Nathan Koch, will join the Band in a performance of Frigyes Hidas’ Concerto for Bassoon and Wind Ensemble. Graduate Assistant Conductor Rubén Darío Gómez will also be featured, conducting his own composition, Montaña Mágica; and Graduate Assistant Conductor Joshua Cutting will present the World Premiere of Keys to the Kingdom by Larry Tuttle. Works by Gary Powell Nash and Kimberly Archer will also be featured.

The Symphonic Band has the distinction of being the band program’s top symphonic ensemble. Its select mission is to provide instrumentalists with an opportunity to demonstrate and develop the techniques and musical instincts appropriate to a symphonic setting. With an emphasis on the distinctive characteristics of the large wind and percussion ensemble, the Symphonic Band’s repertoire is culled from the rich resources of the wind band tradition.

Tickets: Adults $5; Students/Seniors $3
