The country undoubtedly has been in a state of frustration and angst – especially over the past two months, reflected by nationwide protests. This movie discussion seeks to speak to the injustices faced by people of color in the United States.

Join the Nebraska Alumni Association and the Office of Academic Success and Intercultural Services (OASIS) as we discuss the movie “Just Mercy.” “Just Mercy” is a powerful and thought-provoking true story. It follows young lawyer Bryan Stevenson and his history-making battle for justice in defending those wrongly condemned or those not afforded proper representation. One of his first cases is that of Walter McMillian, who is sentenced to die in 1987 for the murder of an 18-year-old girl, despite evidence proving his innocence. In the years that follow, Stevenson encounters racism and legal and political maneuverings as he tirelessly fights for McMillian’s life.
