Nearly 35,000 bird and mammal specimens populate the UNSM research collections and exhibits. How do deceased animals find themselves in a museum? And what happens when they arrive at our research collection doors? Join Thomas Labedz, Collection Manager in the UNSM Division of Zoology, to explore how animals make their way to our collections and how they become specimens. We’ll discuss how they are documented, prepared, catalogued, and maintained for scientific research and exhibits. With proper care, the afterlife of an animal can continue for hundreds of years!
