The National Science Foundation uses two review criteria to evaluate all proposals: intellectual merit and broader impacts. The broader impacts of a research project encompass its potential to benefit society and contribute to desired societal outcomes. Other funders, such as the U.S. Department of Agriculture, are also increasingly interested in the potential of proposed projects to achieve societal impacts beyond expected research contributions. In this session, you will learn about diverse approaches to broader impacts; how to leverage your strengths and values to maximize the impact of your research; and why graduate school is the perfect time to begin developing your broader impacts identity.

This event is primarily for graduate students.
