The University of Nebraska–Lincoln community identified seven grand challenge thematic areas in which to focus its expertise and resources. Faculty are asked to imagine how their areas of research, scholarship and creative activity intersect with these seven challenges and what specific opportunities within these areas they could work across disciplines to help solve. A series of community-building events is scheduled for the fall to facilitate this process.

Science and Technology Literacy for Society is the focus theme for this community building event. A box lunch will be provided. Featured speakers are: Brian Couch, associate professor, School of Biological Sciences; Wendy Smith, research professor, Center for Science, Mathematics and Computer Education; and Judy Wu-Smart, assistant professor and Extension Specialist for the UNL Bee Lab.

For each challenge theme, faculty may register for the in-person or virtual event. Faculty are welcome to attend events for any challenge of interest to them.
