Impact of extreme events on water, food systems and human health: A follow-up discussion: This session is a live Q+A session featuring the panelists from the on-demand session “Impact of extreme events on water and food systems and human health.” Audience members will have the opportunity to ask panelists about the challenges we face and potential solutions for addressing food and water security and human health in the face of more frequent and intense extreme events.

Case studies on climate adaptation: As the implications of climate change on water resource management become ever more present in the public discourse, a range of efforts are being undertaken to adapt in ways that require more than science, laws, and innovative technology. To meet the challenge, and adapt to hotter temperatures with more frequent and dryer “dries,” people are coming together across traditional divides to find ways to move forward to advance multiple goals. Our panel will highlight ongoing and emerging partnerships and methodologies to meet these challenges facing people and natural systems in creative ways.
Examples include innovative efforts by farmers in partnership with environmental groups to restore riverine habitat for birds and fish including through the use of rice farms to grow food for fish, innovative groundwater trading regimes in Nebraska, and an effort by environmental groups and groundwater agencies to jointly succeed in groundwater management under California’s new Sustainable Groundwater Management Act.
