Join us for a thought-provoking discussion with Elton McEachin and Professor Brian Lepard about Elton’s remarkable life and journey through the prison system. As a child Elton witnessed the brutal murder of his mother and then fell onto the wrong path. He robbed a bank at age 25, using a BB gun for fear of harming someone. He was convicted and sentenced to 54 years in prison in Virginia, a state that has abolished parole for felony crimes. Elton’s only way out was through a governmental pardon, which he received after spending 22 years behind bars and with the help of UNL Law Professor Lepard. Our discussion will explore themes of trauma, criminal justice reform, the power of advocacy, and the importance of second chances.
