The August meeting of the OLLI Baseball Interest Group will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14, at Stauffer’s Cafe & Pie Shoppe, 5600 S. 48th Street. All OLLI baseball fans are invited to attend and join in the conversation. There’s no need to register, just come to Stauffer’s and enjoy some pie and baseball talk!

Topics for this month will include:
• Pennant races are getting defined. What teams are in or out? Who saw the Oakland A’s becoming a contender? And what happened to the Washington Nationals? I had them as my pre-season favorite for the World Series!

• Several players changed uniforms at the trading deadline. Did any of the contenders improve their changes with key pick-ups — Manny Machado, Mike Moustakis, Nathan Eovaldi, Zach Brittian, etc.

• ESPN is into their annual saturation coverage of the Little League World Series. Do any of you find yourselves watching those games? Is it baseball in its “purist” form?

• What’s your view of the rebuilding efforts of Dayton Moore and the Kansas City Royals? Are you impressed with any of the new prospects they acquired? And what about Alex Gordon’s recent revival - he’s hitting around .350 since the All-Star break!

We may have to have some serious discussion about whether we should move the location of the “Baseball Interest Group” to Joba Chamberlain’s new bar when it opens.
