The September meeting of the OLLI Politics Interest Group will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20, at Stauffer’s Cafe & Pie Shoppe, 5600 S. 48th Street. All OLLI members are welcome to come and participate. Marvin Almy will be leading the conversation.

Here are a few suggested topics to consider:

1. Bob Woodward’s new book, “Fear,” on the inside of the Trump White House combined with the anonymous opinion piece critical of President Trump which was published by The New York Times has generated discussion of either impeachment or utilization of the 25th Amendment. Are either of those remedies appropriate or likely at this point? Or is the correct approach for those opposed to President Trump the ballot on November 6?

2. The confirmation process of a Supreme Court Justice has become extremely polarized over the years — Robert Bork, Clarence Thomas, Merrick Garland. Now an appointee will not answer any question about issues that may potentially come before the Court. What’s gone wrong and is there any chance of breaking the bitter partisan divide?

3. The Omaha World Herald ran an editorial urging Nebraska legislators not to go the route of Congress. It mentions many issues the next session of the Unicameral will confront and calls for cooperation and compromise. Read it here:

4. Nike has introduced a new ad campaign based on it’s “Just Do It” theme and one of the athletes prominently featured is Colin Kaepernick, the controversial quarterback who started the kneeling of NFL players during the National Anthem. Here’s a couple of viewpoints on the Nike ads:
