The May meeting of the OLLI Baseball Interest Group will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14 at Stauffer’s Cafe & Pie Shoppe, 5600 S. 48th Street.

All OLLI baseball fans are invited to attend and take part in some baseball talk, pie and coffee! There is no need to register - just come to Stauffer’s and join in.

Topics to be discussed include:

1. The changing role of the “closer” so far in this MLB season. Here’s an article by Sam Miller of ESPN that examines the topic:

http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/26683742/the-state-closers-bullpenning-april-best-reliever-never-heard-of

2. The fortunes of the University of Nebraska 2019 baseball team and it’s chances in the upcoming Big 10 tournament

3. Albert Pujols has moved into 4th place on the all-time RBI list. Where does he rank among the all-timers?

4. Some of the teams and players off to “hot starts” include - The Tampa Bay Rays, Hunter Dozier, Christian Yellich and Cody Bellinger. Do they have staying power?

5. In a game against the Cincinnati Reds, Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard pitched a complete game 4-hit shutout and hit a homerun for the Mets only run. That was only the 7th time in MLB history that a pitcher has pitched a complete game shutout and hit a homerun for the only run of the game. The last to do it previously was LA Dodger Bob Welch in 1983. How’s that for a day?

6. We are still grieving the passing of John Havlicek - the “heart and soul” of the Boston Celtics!

See all you baseball fans at Stauffer’s
