The book Sexual Citizens (named one of NPR’s Best Books of 2020) is based on years of research interviewing and observing college life – with students of different races, genders, sexual orientations, and socio-economic backgrounds. Authors Jennifer Hirsch and Shamus Khan’s landmark study reveals the social ecosystem that makes sexual assault so predictable, explaining how physical spaces, alcohol, peer groups, and cultural norms influence young people’s experiences and interpretations of both sex and sexual assault.

On April 21, 2022 at 7:00pm, Hirsch and Khan will present “Sex, Power, and Assault on Campus: A Conversation for Cultural Change” in Kimball Hall on the UNL campus. Free tickets can be reserved at go.unl.edu/convoforchange

Presented by the Lied Center for Performing Arts and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, this event is intended to be part of a campus effort built on empathy and hope, anchored in the belief that the campus community can work together to address issues surrounding sexual violence at UNL.
