Theatrix, the student-run theatre company within the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, continues its 2018-2019 season with Speech & Debate, written by Stephen Karam and directed by University of Nebraska student, Ethan Greenlee.

“Three teenage misfits in Salem, Oregon discover they are linked by a sex scandal that’s rocked their town. When one of them sets out to expose the truth, secrets become currency, the stakes get higher, and the trio’s connection grows deeper in this searching, fiercely funny dark comedy with music,” said Dramatists Play Service.

Theatrix’s production of Speech & Debate is directed by sophomore theatre directing and management major Ethan Greenlee, and features performances by sophomore theatre performance major Emma Perizak, freshman theatre performance major Matthew Blom, sophomore theatre performance major Connor Garrison, and local theatre artist Theresa Christiansen.

Costume design for the production is by first year costume design graduate student Samuel Brant, with sound designed by senior theatre design/technical production major Emily Callahan, and lights designed by Adam Zastrow, a sophomore theatre design/technical production major. Grace Trudeau, a first year scenic design graduate student, is the scenic designer and props master for this, with the help of her assistant, sophomore design/technical production major Stephanie Locke. Shannon Sullivan, freshman technical/design production major, will stage manage.

Performances are 7:30 PM February 28, March 1, 2 and 2:00 PM on March 3. All performances take place in the Lab Theatre in the Temple Building at 12th and R Streets. Speech & Debate contains mature content that may not be suitable for all audiences.

Tickets may be purchased for $7 online by visiting www.unltheatretickets.com or at the door one hour prior to performance in the Lab Theatre’s third floor lobby (cash only; seats subject to availability).

Theatrix is a student-run theatre company that works under the umbrella of the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film in the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts.
