John Sorensen, Grace Abbott scholar, author and friend of the University, will present “Grace and Edith Abbott: Nebraska’s Social Justice Sisters.” Sorensen will explore the significance of the Abbott sisters and their lasting impact on the University, Lincoln and Nebraska.

Grace Abbott was an extraordinary leader in the struggles to improve life for America’s children and immigrants. As Chief of the U.S. Children’s Bureau and as Director of the Immigrants’ Protective League, Grace Abbott is credited with saving thousands of children’s and immigrants’ lives, and improving those of millions more.

The talk is the third installment in a series of 12 Nebraska Lectures in 2019, part of the university’s celebration of its 150th anniversary this year. The lectures will focus on unique aspects of Nebraska and the university.

A reception will follow the lecture.
