Nebraska Extension will host a farm and ranch transition workshop in Scottsbluff, from 8:30 a.m. to noon MDT on July 22, at the Panhandle Research and Extension Center, 4502 Ave. I.

The meeting will offer information on planning and communication strategies, as well as financial and legal considerations for agricultural landowners, ranchers and farmers who are thinking about how to proceed with plans to retire, exit or transfer the farm or ranch business.

Presenters will include Allan Vyhnalek, a Nebraska Extension educator for farm and ranch succession and transition, and Pamela Olson, an attorney based in Scottsbluff.

“Retiring or passing the farm to the next generation is difficult to think about and is an admission of your own impending demise,” Vyhnalek said. “However, it is a necessary step and, with good planning, can be made as painless as possible.”

The workshop is free, but registration is requested and can be completed by contacting the Panhandle Research and Extension Center at 308-632-1230.
